Verification Code Not Arriving? The Most Common Causes and Fixes
You typed your number, pressed "send code", and nothing arrived. It's one of the most common frustrations online, and the cause is rarely your phone. Here is what usually goes wrong and what to do about it.
1. You requested too many codes
Most services limit how many codes one number, device or network can request in a short time. Pressing "resend" five times can lock you out for minutes or hours, and some services silently stop sending instead of showing an error. Fix. Request once, wait a full two or three minutes, and only then try again.
2. The service doesn't accept that type of number
Some services refuse numbers they classify as virtual (VoIP), prepaid or from certain countries, and they don't always say so. The code is never sent. Fix. Try a different number or country. On telly.cat, the service and country lists are built around what actually receives codes for each service.
3. Country code or formatting mistakes
Double-check the country selector and remove any leading zero from the national number when the country code is added separately. A number entered with the wrong prefix sends the code somewhere else entirely.
4. Carrier filtering and delays
Mobile networks filter messages they suspect are spam, and international SMS routes can be slow at busy times. Most codes arrive within seconds, but a delay of a minute or two isn't unusual. Fix. Wait before resending, and consider a voice-call option if the service offers one.
5. The code went to another app or channel
Some services send the code inside their own app (for example to a device where you're already logged in), by email, or by voice call instead of SMS. Read the verification screen carefully. There is often a small "didn't get it?" link with other options.
6. The service is having problems
Outages at the service or its SMS provider happen. If several different numbers fail for the same service at the same time, wait and try again later.
On your own phone
- Check that you have signal and aren't in airplane mode.
- Look in spam, blocked or filtered message folders.
- Restart the phone. It clears stuck message queues more often than you'd expect.
- Make sure your inbox isn't full on older phones.
With a telly.cat number
Each number waits for its code for up to 15 minutes, and the code appears on your dashboard as soon as it arrives. If nothing comes, you don't lose anything.
