How to Write Rules and Terms for Your Number Store

Rules feel boring until you need them. When a customer disputes a payment, when a payment provider asks questions, or when someone abuses your store, clear written rules are what you point to.
What to include
- What you sell. Temporary numbers for receiving SMS verification codes. Not long term phone lines.
- How refunds work. No SMS before expiry means an automatic refund to balance. Cancel and ban rules. What happens once a code has arrived.
- Balance. Whether balance can be paid out, and whether bonuses are refundable (usually not).
- Forbidden use. No fraud, scams, spam, harassment, fake reviews or anything illegal. No use that breaks the rules of the service being signed up for.
- Account closure. You can close accounts that break the rules, and what happens to their balance.
- No long term guarantee. Numbers may be reused later. Don't rely on them for account recovery.
Write it simply
Short sentences. No legal fog. Customers should understand it in two minutes. A page people actually read prevents more problems than a long one nobody opens.
Make it visible
- Link it in your footer.
- Mention it near the top up button.
- Link it in support replies about refunds.
Enforce it
Rules only work if you act on them. If you see a customer clearly using numbers for abuse, close the account. It protects your payment accounts and your honest customers.
Keep it current
When something changes in how your store works, update the terms the same day.
