How to Protect Your Telegram Account With a Password
By default, logging into Telegram needs only a code sent to your number or app. Adding a two-step verification password means a stolen code alone isn't enough.
Turn on two-step verification
- Open Settings, then Privacy and Security.
- Choose Two-Step Verification.
- Set a strong password and add a recovery email.
Check your devices
In Settings, Devices shows every active session. End anything you don't recognise, and consider ending old sessions you no longer use.
Keep your number private
- Set who can see your phone number to Nobody or My Contacts.
- Limit who can find you by your number.
- Use a username for sharing instead of your number.
Never share login codes
Telegram login codes are only for you. Scammers often pose as support or friends to ask for them.
Watch for fake bots and links
Only log in through the official apps. Links promising free premium, gifts or verification badges are common traps.
Keep your main Telegram on a number you control long term. For other one-off sign ups, telly.cat numbers keep your personal number private.
